The average price of a beer small is around 3 Lira a bigger beer is nearly 5 Lira.  You have to shop around for the cheaper beer on offer an area called Taksim you can find always some bars that will offer a beer cheaper.  One Turkish lira as you asked will not get you much at all, you can buy a bottle of water for half a lira.

When you work this out the exchange rate today 7/8/08 is only 2.15 Turkish lira to one English pound so workout that 3 lira for a small beer is about one pound 35 pence.  The larger beer will cost you about two pound 30 pence.  I would suggest you exchange your English pound in Turkey as your money will go further

A (single) Turkish lira will get you 2 kg tomatoes, 1kg peaches etc in the local market. In shops, bars etc it won't get you much.

Bottled beer in bars (50cl/a pint) will cost anything from 3 ytl up. In posh bars it could be 12-15ytl. In cities, 5ytl is about average. Some places advertise less but it's probably S****y draught beer in small (30cl) glasses.
