soooo... all this talk of VP's this weekend and it makes me ask the question of what a vice president actually does?

From my perspective it looks like the VP does only two things. One is step up in case the president is unable to perform his duties. The second is break a tie in the Senate. Other than that it appears that they don't really do anything except for act as a confident for the president (which you wouldn't necessarily need to be VP to do).

Does a VP do anything else?

  1. Waits for the President to die...and attends funerals for foreign dignitaries.

    Pretty depressing overall, yeah?

  2. Our Vice President Cheney sets policy. He orders torture, spies on Americans, outs CIA agents, manipulates and falsifies intelligence to attack nations, and lurks in undisclosed locations.

  3. You forgot one duty say yes to the President whenever he asks!

  4. Yes, a VP hunts quail, goes into hiding, eats a lot (re:  too much!) junk food, cusses at other Senators in Congress and when no one is looking, overdrinks.

  5. He holds the POTUS member while he is standing at the official urinal...

  6. It is discretionary for the President if he wants his VP active in governing or not.  I prefer that they work together.
