    Safewater mark - red and white vertical striped buoys : These aids are used to mark fairways, mid-channels, and offshore approach points, and have unobstructed water on all sides. They can also be used by the vessel operator transiting offshore waters to identify the proximity of intended landfall. Lighted/unlighted buoy may show a red topmark.

    These are white with red vertical stripes and indicate unobstructed water on all sides. They mark mid-channels or fairways and may be passed on either side.

  8. It's a safe water marker. Used to be called a mid-channel buoy. Generally denotes a channel entrance, and if it's lighted it will display a white light which will flash one short and one prolonged, which is the Morse code letter "A". For this reason, they are also sometimes called "Mo Alfa buoys".
