  1. when it is served, and the other team either misses it, or hits it out of bounds without a succesful return.

  2. Well, as you can see, it means different things to different people.

I don't think "Ace" is an official term (like "side out") - so it depends upon who you talk to.

When I was learning to play volleyball, we all used it when you served the ball, and it hit the floor on the other side.

Others have used it anytime a player hits the ball, but cannot play it (i.e. they "shank" it, hit it so it's unplayable, etc.).

Personally, I prefer the first defenition - because it's more difficult, and not as easy to do.

This is just my opinion, but I think that the second definition of "Ace" came about with the televising of more volleyball matches in attempt to make it "more exciting" - kind of like a "strike out" in baseball.

  3. where you serve and the other team doesnt touch the ball when its in the court

  4. The server hits the ball over the net, and the other team is unable to pass the ball to another player, immediately resulting in a point by the serving team.

Contrary to what some people say, the ball does not have to hit the floor to constitute an ace.  If the person receiving the serve shanks it off their arm and it goes out of play, that constitutes an ace.  If they shank it, but a teammate of theirs recovers the bas pass, it is not an ace, even if the serving team eventually gets the point.

  5. no yall r soooo rong... listen 2 da real vb playa...  ace is wen ur team serves it over the net and nobody goes for the ball, or no one touches the ball b4 it hits the floor... then usually teams stand up and do their ace cheer ( u make it up... keep it short... (stomp stomp clap, then scream ACE!!))

  6. when a serve goes over the net and the other team doesn't get the ball back over

  7. the server hits the ball over to the opposing side and no one returns it it just hits the ground!

  8. The serve was not returned.
