Question:

What does acupuncture feel like?

My doctor suggested acupuncture (along with medication) for my severe and frequent headaches. I am a little nervous about having needles stuck into me. What does it feel like? Does it hurt? Will it leave marks on my skin? Anything you can tell me about it would be great! Thanks.

  1. The needles are so thin, you don't even feel them they are going in.

Sometimes, it may feel like you're being gently pinched, but it usually means that you really need the treatment.  The pain goes away in a couple of seconds.

Since you have to lie there for at least 15 minutes, the experience is very relaxing.

This is a great alternative to drugs. You should definitely try it.

  2. No marks, no pain, just a small feeling like a tiny pinch.  If you get a good acupuncturist, they can really help especially for something like a headache.  It looks like it hurts, but there is no pain.  There can be a little discomfort depending on the problem, but it goes away as soon as the needle is taken out.
