  1. I think you mean "independent agency".  It is a term used in the insurance industry.  

    There are many insurance companies that sell all kinds of insurance. If an insurance agent is employed by one of these companies, then they can only sell insurance policies from that company.

    If an insurance agent is employed by an independent insurance agency, they can sell insurance polices from many different insurance companies.  This works better for the customer since all insurance companies do not charge the same price for the same coverage.

    I purchase my house and car insurance through an independent insurance agency.  They review by bill at renewal every year. If the bill goes up too high, they switch me to another company to save money.  I get the same or better coverage at a lower cost this way.
