  1. amino acids are proteins.

  2. ily

  3. Aw you're cute and you don't know what an amino acid is.

  4. In the most general case,  it means an organic acid which also contains an amine group.   However,  there is a very special group of amino acids called alpha amino acids which are the essential building blocks of proteins.   The general formula for these is:

    RCH(NH2)COOH

Where R is one of a number of possible groups , H, CH3, C2H5, OH, SH,  etc.

These materials can form long chain polymers with polyamide bonds of the type

    R1CH(NH2)CONHCHR2COOH

In this case,  R1 and R2 are also groups like H, CH3,  C2H5, etc.  They can be the same or different.

This would be a dipeptide.   However, this type of chain can keep going as long as one wishes and for some proteins,  has thousands or even millions of units.
