What does an Adapter do for a Nintendo DS Lite?

The Nintendo DS Lite AC Adapter will recharge the system when plugged into a wall outlet. It does come packaged with the system when you purchase it. There is a difference between the DS Lite AC Adapter and the original DS AC Adapter so the older one will not work with the DS Lite.
