What does an American need(immigration wise) to move and live in France?

Is it like here, u cant just move there, You need a family member to petition for you to become a resident?

You can research visa requirements through the French embassy website below.  Americans are at the end of a very ong line if they want to work / live in France.  all other Europeans and those who qualify as refugees are ahead of americans.  same is truw for all european nations.  if you are retired and hae a steady income, it is easier...in EVERY country...but it is nearly impossible to live and work in a foreign country,


  2. Its very similar to the rules in the United States although overall the French rules may be a bit more liberal.

    The easiest way is simply to have enough money that you don't need to work. This is often the situation with retirees. People in this situation ave little difficulty in obtaining a Carte de Sejour (a French resident permit).

    Going to France as a student is also relatively easy assuming to can get into a college there (which will require that you be a fluent French speaker).

    Going to France with a job already assured requires a lot of paperwork but much of it will be taken care of by your employer.

    Going to France without a job is very, very difficult and is not likely to be approved absent special circumstances.
