What does an inventory counter do? I have a job interview today for an inventory counter position but I'm just curious as to what all their tasks are so I will be able to go in there a little bit more knowledgeable about the positionn. Am I just counting the inventory for 8 hours a day? I just need a little bit more detail on the position. Its for the company RGIS if that helps at all.

  1. You are correct about the job.

An inventory counter keeps track of the inventory for a business.  It may be more than strictly counting the inventory.  Such as noting when items come into the business and when they leave.

For instance a business gets 100 motors in from an order with an outside vendor..  They can produce 100 widgets with these motors.

They produce all the widgets but the count shows only 99 left the factory.  This means that one is still there somewhere or someone has stolen it or something of this nature

In many retail trades (clothing stores, ...) the business pays a tax on the items that are in inventory at a certain time of year.  The business will also want to make sure their books show the correct number of items.

You  have probably tried to go t  business at one time or other and seen a sign that said "closed for inventory".
