asb is just plastic or pvc piping. the waste pipe should be either white or black and either 3 or 4 inches in diameter. to see a picture search either www.lowes.com or www.homedepot.com

It is black plastic, and is different from PVC, requiring a different type of glue to join fittings together. ABS pipe is black rigid, non-pressurized plastic pipe used to drain your sinks, tubs, showers, toilet and washing machines. It is also used to vent the drain and waste pipes.

There have been problems associated with ABS pipe developing cracks all around the pipe near a joint.

You can see ABS at any Home Depot, Lowe's or most hardware stores.  It's actually an inner wall + an outer wall with a foam core - tougher than it sounds.  But I personally prefer cast-iron, which is much quieter than plastic drain pipe.

The problem with ABS breaking at the fittings was with a particular brand (Centaur) and it was many years ago.  It resulted in a lawsuit against Shell Oil, who provided the chemicals for that batch of pipe.  That was a real nightmare.
