Hi there, I have a commission to paint for someone and am beginning to figure out the charges for the painting. I'm not sure what to charge as far as materials, time, etc. I don't want to overcharge but put great value on my work & want my client to put value on the piece. If anyone can just email me in plain english the $$ amounts that are fair based on good tech skill for the work, that would be helpful and I would be most grateful. Thanks for your time!

Kind Regards!

  1. www.paintandstuff.biz

  2. One method of pricing paintings is similar to any production business. Your figures will vary according to your actual material costs and time spent.

Figure out what you want to make hourly and multiply that by the time it took to create and market the painting.

Add that to the cost of materials.

Add the cost of doing business (marketing, rent, utilities, etc). during those hours of work.

It would look something like this:

    $250 ... 10 hrs. painting and marketing X $25/hour

    35 ... Cost of materials

60 ... Business costs of $12000/year X 10 hrs/2000 hrs (year of working full time)

    ----------

    $345 - wholesale price

    $690 - retail price
