  1. I am going out on a limb here and guess it is the entry level signal position.

    I t would not be journeyman or apprentice so I will say it is entry.

    If that is the case it would involve a fair amount of labor but nothing brutal.

    They dig small trenches frequently to replace and repair buried signal lines, there will probably be some brush and tree trimming to keep the railway signals unobscured.

    Learning the basics of railroad signal systems and trouble shooting failures.

    There will likely be some repairing and maintaining of railraod crossing protection devices, gates and lights.

    Railroad signal systems have some pretty sophisicated electronic components and you would be learning how to install, maintain and upgrade them also.

    Railroad signal maintainers are a good job, there is typically little turnover in that field.
