  1. Ethical universalism is a meta-ethical position.  It says only that there are some ethics which apply to everyone without exception.

    It doesn't say what those ethics are, nor does it exclude the possibility that the ethic itself is limited, nor does it make any claims about whether there are or are not ethics which are not universal.

    So, for example, someone might say that a person killing another person is always wrong.  The 'always' part makes it a universalist claim.

    Someone who believed that there were no universally valid ethics might be a relativist (who believes that different things are important for different people or cultures) or perhaps a nihilist of some sort (who wouldn't recognize that anything is important).
