  1. Aphrodite was the Greek Goddess of love and passion but she is also been associated with jealousy, beauty, s*x, fertility and even war (as in men willing to go to war for her.)  Usually in literature her name is used in a synonymous meaning with love and passion.

In art and poetry she has also been called Venus and, has also been associated as being the devine provider of the dawn, lust, the seas, dolphins, doves, swans, pamegranates, apples, roses, limes, myrtle, clams and pearls.

  2. I agree with the poster who said foam. Aphrodite means "foam-arisen" or born out of the sea foam. Aphros is Greek for sea foam, which can be traced back to some mythic version that Aphrodite was born out of the foam that formed in the sea where Uranus' severed genitals landed when his son Cronus tossed it out from the sky.

It does not mean love or p**n, however, she was the goddess in charge of the matters of the heart. The word aphrodisiac is totally based on her role as the goddess of love and not on the etymological Greek.

  3. Aphrodite was the ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty. But as Aphrodite Porne she was patron of lust and prostitution.

  4. She is usually associated with love & beauty but an immature form of "love" - more like lust.  Read the myths about her to see why.

  5. the goddess of love and beauty.

  6. Aphrodite was considered to be a Greek goddess born from the sea's foam of genitalia. She was considered immortal and could not therefore die. She was known for her love of lust, s*x and her beauty.

She was also believed to be the protectress of sailors at sea.

    Hope that helped you.

  7. her name means 'foam' because she was born from uranus's testicles in the sea, from the foam.

Check it out in any greek myth book--it's there!

    Hope i helped.
