Question:

What does baseball on the radio mean to you?

To me it means total immersion, magical moments listening to the voice of Vin Scully. Sometimes I even turn off the tv and just listen to the radio. In the old days when no tv was available and people would look forward to a game that evening would gather around, now that was really being into a game. What do you think?

  1. I don't have FSMW, so I still listen to most Cardinals games on the radio. I like Mike Shannon a lot, but I don't care for John Rooney. It used to be Mike Shannon and Jack Buck...

  2. its pretty cool

  3. It means fishing on a quiet pond with no one except you and the radio booming with the game of the week.

  4. it means my teams game is out of market

  5. It's great listening to Pat Hughes and Ron Santo for the Cubs

  6. I grew up listening to Angel games on the radio.  I would listen to my transistor radio, which I hid under my pillow, when I was supposed to be sleeping.  If I fell asleep before the game was over, my Dad would come in and turn it off for me.  I never got in trouble for it.

  7. Coming from Detroit I grew up listening to Ernie Harwell so baseball on the radio reminds me of long, hot summer days outside listening to the Tigers games. Now-a-days baseball on the radio isn't as good (too many commercials) but I still listen to it but would rather watch it.

  8. Yeah, I'm with you. You can follow the game while you paint a room or saw wood or cook or just rock in a hamper. With all the technical innovations of the 20th century, they still haven't topped radio baseball.

  9. I remember taking a walk as a child and hearing  the sound ball games on the radio  from so many of the houses that I passed. To me it is the  sound of hot, happy, carefree days of summer when I was nine or ten.
