What does being a journalist involve?

Would you call it an enjoyable career?

I love writing, especially about sports, and many people have told me to consider journalism. Could anyone describe to me a day in a life of a journalist?

Finding and reporting on the news. Either as journalist who finds specialised news or working with international news agencies under contract.

If it is TV news you need presentation skills as well as journalistic abilities. Writing for newspapers/magazines needs different skills. Especially periodicals, which is more about articles than actual news.
