  1. it involves alot..

like teaching kids their ABC's and teaching them to socialize with other people

  2. Both my kids have went to different preschools. They were totally different from each other. The 1st one was basically a play school. The teacher only did VERY minimum teaching. Mostly was a children getting used to the classroom enviroment (getting used to other kids). My son came outta this school knowing no more than what I taught him.

The one my daughter went to was completely hands on, she did endless amounts of crafts. Barely had any toys in the classroom. She taught them how to spell their names, and phone numbers, and all about canada, and the canadian flag, all their alphabet, and numbers, and days of the week, and months of the year, the LIST GOES ON! My daughter went into kindergarden knowing all she needed to know for grade 1!! she is very advacnce b/c if that school.

SO basically the answer to your question ( i think ) would be, it involves as much or as little as the teacher wants to. There is no set criteria. BUT, its ALOT of work to make a good school.. and the teacher got paid $1200 a month... she worked at least 50 hours a week!!! Takes a special kind of person to do that kind of work thats for sure.

    Take Care

    :) Laci

  3. Work very hard for not very much $$.  Unless you really love kids and are very patient and have tons of energy, and like dealing with ignorant belligerent parents and lots of confusing campus, district, state, and federal guidelines, I wouldn't recommend it.

  4. I teach a multiage pre-k/k class.  Basically I help the children to learn to share, get along, take responsibility for materials and themselves. Then there is the teaching of  pre-reading and reading skills, basic math (counting, patterns, measurement, comparing, shapes), hands on science activities (animal study, magnets, plant life etc).  I would have to say that the job requires a lot of patience and the ability to be "on" for many hours.  I am lucky in that I teach in a public school and thus receive a public school teacher's salary as opposed to a private pre-school teacher's salary- so there is hope of a decent wage for teaching young children!

  5. LOVE would be the first thought in my mind. You need a tremendous amount of love to work with "young children" of all ages. I would attend the appropriate college to learn all that I needed to "work with" children. I wouldn't take a chance of "reading" the wrong signals and NOT being of optimum value to the children that would be in my classes. I wish you well. What shall we then say to these things? If GOD be for us, WHO can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with BENEFITS, even the God of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm 68:19. Peace, Love and God Bless.

  6. i'm a prep teacher in a childcare centre so it's a bit different from prep in a school.

    what i do each day:

observe the children's skills in 16 main area's of development and write down what skills they are displaying

write next to each observation how to encourage that child to further enhance that skill.

plan an activity to help the child develop.

this is how each and every toy, experience and activity is chosen.

If you walk into a childcare centre and see a toy, that toy is placed out with a particular child's development in mind.

at the end of the week i evaulate each activity to see if the child's development has enhanced or not.

all up it takes me 10 -15 hours each week (out of work time and unpaid) to do what we call "programming" aka paperwork.

we also supervise and care for the children. constantly encouraging the children to grow into confident, competent and unique individuals.

the entire centre is cleaned by the staff each week. The room is cleaned head to tail each day by the teacher. Every toy and surface is disinfected while the children's rest in the middle of the day.

It is a tremendously fullfilling job and i love it to pieces. I do an awful lot of paperwork at work as well as the 10 -15hours i do at home. I do an awful lot of cleaning each day. but i love it :)

this job is not for the faint hearted. Every year we see a huge influx of school leavers come into the industry with energy and interest. Only to discover how hard and demanding the job actually is. And they all quit to find jobs with higher wages and better conditions.

if you are interested in this field, i encourage you to do some volunteer work at a centre and see what really goes on there :)

i love the work, i hope you do too :)

  7. We work on literacy: learning the alphabet- being able to recognize upper and lower case, also learning the sounds of each.  Starting to learn how to write the letters, and also writing own name.  Introducing early math, which is classifying shapes, sorting objects, learning the numbers.  Early science, which is mostly hands-on like planting seeds, and talking about how plants grow.  Maybe learning about an animal.  I have tadpoles, frogs, turtles, and bugs in my class.  Teaching about early social studies, which is just learning about self, others, and manners.  We try and work on problem-solving, thinking skills, and social skills.  These are things that children do naturally, but we help facilitate ways of working out issues. Good luck, and hope this helps.  I am a preschool- 4yr. old teacher.
