What does being a professional doctor involve?

I'm confused what is meant by this question. It is needed for the UCAS application for medical schools. I understand being a doctor isn't like ER or Grey's Anatomy, but could someone summarise the main points involved in becoming a doctor so I can decide whether it's the right career for me.
