  1. blue ray disc can hold more info so  they put super hi def for the movie, series, etc. but you have to have a dvd player that can play blue ray disc

  2. The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. This extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs will offer consumers an unprecedented HD experience.

  3. First, it's Blu-ray.

It's a disc like a DVD but it can hold a lot more data, 25 gigabytes for a single layer disc, 50 GB for dual layer discs. The name comes from the laser used, it's a blue violet laser, hence the blu ray name. That kind of laser can point a finer beam than the red laser DVD type can giving more storage space.

The extra space is needed to hold High definition content which takes up a lot of space, HDTV is a data hog.

So there's the difference. You'll need a blu ray player and a high definition TV to get the benefit of the disc. Playstation 3 has blu ray built in. You hook up a blu ray player to a regular TV, but there's little point to it.

You cannot play blu ray disc in a regular DVD player. So, just go for the regular DVD unless you see yourself going hi def in the near future.
