My friend is brain dead. What does this mean? He is on breathing machine and doctor said they will keep alive until the next of kin can be contacted to see about donating his organs. But I felt his hand/arm move. Could this mean, there is a small chance he might come through?

  1. It basically means, that his brain is not functioning anymore. And once you are brain dead, you don't come back through. I am really really sorry!

It happened to my Uncle. He was in a car accident. You might have felt his hand/ arm move because of the machines he is on.

    I am really sorry.

  2. I am sorry, it means you friend brain is not ever going to work he has to be on a machine to help him stay alive, he is basically dead I am so sorry

  3. I am really sorry about your friend, and I hope everything works out as well as it can for everybody.

Brain dead usually means that the person in question has no, or so little brain activity that their bodies cannot live on their own. Their brain is "dead" but their body is not. It is not an exact term, but usually means there is no chance of recovery.

I don't mean to get your hopes up, but if you felt his hand move by all means tell a doctor. If that doctor doesn't listen to you, or dose not give you an explanation find one who will. I don't know a lot about this subject, but i know doctors are human and we all make mistakes. If there is any chance that your information might help the doctors, they need to know it.

I'm so sorry this happened to your friend, and I can only imagine what you are going through. God bless
