  1. Read a sample policy wording. They are all different although there is allot of overlap.

  2. It's not possible to generalise. In fact, it would be misleading. You MUST read the small prints of your insurance carefully. Some insurance will not cover you if you have to cancel due to a pre-exiting medical condition. Some will not cover you if you are late and miss your flight. Many people have been caught out badly. Check before you buy.

  3. Hello,

It can be your flight, and/or your accommodation, and/or airport transfer, and/or tour, and/or up to a certain amount.

All the insurance are differents and you will need to read the small print.

    All the best.

  4. Generally (and yes that is a dangerous statement) it covers you against having to cancel your holiday because of illness, death or injury to someone in your travelling party or a close relative such as parents etc.

HOWEVER, as others say... don't trust a generalisation, they are all different, pre-existing illnesses are often (but not always) excluded for example.

If you have a particular concern, ask point blank "am I covered for XYZ under your policy" and get it in writing (email is fine these days). After all you can't be too careful, sending an email to the customer service desk of the insurer only takes a minute (you can send the same one to several) and if you don't get a prompt reply you have a pretty good idea how good their customer service is don't you !!

    Best wishes

  6. Cancellation Cover should be outlined in your policy but to get the best possible cover buy travel insurance when you BOOK your holiday not the week before you are due to go.  My in laws bought from a broker when they booked and then one could not travel due to ill health and was fully covered.  had he left till last minute no cover in force.  A good policy will cover cancellation from moment policy bought so get in early.

Cover will usually be for cancellation due to ill health or ill health of a VERY close relative.

If you change your mind in travelling no cover.  Best thing to do if you have a specific concern is to ring your broker and they will answer for you on specifics.
