  1. Mean you can take money off your debit card, example, i cashier will ask if you want cash back you say $40 , then they add that to whatever else your buying, and of course give you $40.


  2. It means that if you use your debit card (also known as a check card) to make a purchase, and the merchant allows you to complete the purchase at the terminal as a pin-based transaction, you can get cash back.

    Let's say you purchase $40 of groceries at the grocery store or Wal-Mart.  If you select "debit" at the checkout terminal and use your PIN, you can get cash back.  If you select $20 cash back, the total transaction amount will be $60.

    Some places, such as some of the Dollar Stores, charge you a fee to get cash back.
