  1. it allows the transmission fluid to circulate better in the tranny and when things circulate better all the parts are getting lubricated and you have a lot less chance of tranny failure.

  2. Makes you feel like a skirt because you don't drive a manual.

I don't have an auto so i didn't know that they had these but it'd stop grit and c**p from circulating in your gearbox and wearing it out.

Change it when it says you're supposed to and you'll get alot more life out of your gearbox.

  3. The filter keeps the clutch and band particles from clogging the valve body. The clutches and bands are made of very thin material made to operate in trans fluid, a type of oil. They are allmost like cork and cardboard mixed together, That is not what they are but like it. The transmission shifts by changing fluid routes threw the valve body. These little valves, like small pistons, have very tiny clearance, no room for chunks of worn bands and clutchs.

If your car is very old and has alot of miles on it, sometimes changing this filter is not a good idea. The new fluid will clean the old c**p out and clog things and a few miles, not instantly, you will need a transmision.

If you maintain your car then have this done eevry 25,000 to 50,000 miles depending on your car and what you use it for. Towing heavy trailers for example this needs to be done more often, not just for a clean filter, but because automatic transmission fluid contains friction modifiers, things that keep clutches from slipping and wearing out.

So you don't want to change just the filter but the filter and fluid also.

make sure the torque converter gets drained with the change also. If the shop or you do not know what this means, don't mess with the transmision.

Old automatics such as a Ford C6 transmission didn't even have a filter, just a screen, so the important thing is the fluid, but the filter is right there so you change that too.

If the shop shows you the oil pan and you see a little plastic plug or part, DO NOT let them tell you it is a part that fell out with out a second opinion. It is probably the plug that gets shoved in when the factory installs the transmission dipstick and can be thrown away. It is not allways in there.

I have seen shops try to tell people this is s broken part, when it is not.

  4. Improve shift changes

Get rid of foreign matter in the transmission
