  2. Well in the 1950's fear of communism was very rare so the whole play has to do with the fear of communism.and plus the salem witch trial which deals with the fear of comminism.

  3. Not communism per se but the McCarthy-inspired "Communist Witch Hunt," analogous to the Salem witch trials.
