What does dark colored urine indicate?

Recently I have had dark colored urine with bad odor. I went to the doctor and she told me it was a urinary tract infection. I have had urinary tract infections before and I'm not having any of the other symptoms (fever,pain,chills,etc.) so I don't think thats it. I don't think it's dehydration either because I drink a lot of water. What else could it be?

Not every UTI will have the exact same symptoms.  I would listen to your doctor and if the problem persists, see someone else.

Dark Urine

Sometimes your urine can be a few shades darker than the usual light yellow urine.

Dark urine can be caused by many factors, such as the food you eat, how hydrated you are, and of course certain illnesses.

p.s. there are a variety of reasons for dark urine some of which should be taken care of a.s.a.p. so I'll strongly suggest to return to your doctor until the issue is solved. take care

Some foods may mark your urine dark:

Asparagus makes dark yellow or even green urine. It is usually accompanied by a stronger urine odor.

Beets can give you red urine. The urine will be a reddish tint. If your urine has more than a reddish tint, see a doctor immediately. You wan to make sure you do not have blood in your urine.

Blackberries can make red urine or smoky brown urine as well

Keep in mind that food coloring in candy and other foods can cause dark urine. Black licorice can make your urine dark; you’ve probably noticed how black licorice makes your stool green.

Your urine can turn darker when you are taking certain medications as well. If you have dark urine, make a list of the medications you are currently taking.

When you notice dark urine, ask yourself the following 4 questions:

What have I eaten recently?

What medications am I taking?

Have I been drinking enough water?

How do I feel?

If you urine is a clear dark brown urine, see a doctor immediately. This can be a sign of a liver disease such as cirrhosis of the liver or hepatitis.

Either not enough water intake, not urinating frequently enough, or foods or medications (many vitamin pills do this).

It's worth checking out with your doc if it's none of these... because there are (some are quite unusual) illnesses that can cause it.

Any changes in urine color, or the presence of an abnormal urine color that cannot be linked to the consumption of a food or drug, should be reported to the doctor. This is particularly important if it happens for longer than a day or two, or if there are repeated episodes.

Some dyes used in candy may be excreted in the urine, and a wide variety of drugs can discolor the urine.

Cloudy, murky, or turbid (muddy) urine is characteristic of a urinary tract infection, which may also have an offensive smell. Murky urine may also be caused by the presence of bacteria, mucus, white blood cells or red blood cells, epithelial cells, fat, or phosphates.

Dark brown or clear urine is characteristic of a liver disorder such as acute viral hepatitis or cirrhosis.

Pink, red, or smoky brown urine can be a side effect of a medication or may be caused by the recent consumption of beets, blackberries or certain food colorings. It is also characteristic of a urinary tract disorder in which bleeding occurs such as cystitis, enlarged prostate, kidney cancer, bladder tumor, tuberculosis, bladder stones, kidney infection, Wilms' tumor (in children), or hypernephroma. Hemolytic anemia and porphyria can also cause urine to take on these colors. It may also occur after trauma to the kidneys or urinary tract.

Dark yellow or orange urine can be caused by recent use of laxatives or consumption of B complex vitamins or carotene. Orange urine is often caused by pyridium (used in the treatment of urinary tract infections), rifampin, and warfarin.

Green or blue urine is due to the effect of artificial color in food or drug. It may also result from medications including amitriptyline, indomethacin, and doxorubicin.

i could be wrong but when i was younger the same thing happened to

me i would think i bladder infection

its good you drink lots of water though.

dark colored urine usually means you dont though

so im pretty confused.

you are not hydrated. drink a lot of fluids. the liighter the pee the healthier it is.

It just means that you are not getting enough water. You have to drink more water.

some people are different...maybe you need to drink MORE water than you normally do. you're supposed to drink 8 bottles a day!

uti's dont always produce the obvious symptoms,especially as women age.many elderly women get them and have no idea!ur probably not elderly,but u would be surprised how many people get mild to moderate symptoms.ur dr saw the bacteria in ur urine sample under the microscope.she or he has had 8 or more years in school studying such things.if the bacteria are present,u have an infection.take the antibiotics,before it becomes a kidney infection,which is what untrated uti's turn into! ps-a bad odor will always indicate the presence of infection,whether in urine,throat,ear,etc.if it smells bad,its infected.

With an uncomplicated urinary tract infection (i.e., one that only involves the bladder and not the kidneys), you usually have no fever or chills.  Other things can cause dark urine: dehydration (you don't think that's it) blood or blood proteins in the urine, pigments from foods/medications.

My advice: if it goes on for a couple of days, you should call your doctor and get a quick urinalysis.

If you are peeing Dark Orange urine it is the onset of either a kidney infection or Kidney Disease.. My daughter has kidney disease and she sometimes pees Dark Orange Urine.. She contracted due to Physician Error.. Dr said strep throat swab was negative when it was actually positive.. Went a month with no treatment until she started peeing Dark Orange and couldn't move... Went to ER the said OOPS her strep was actually positive and because they did not treat her for it, it attacked her kidneys.. Now she has Kidney Disease
