My dogs tend to have accidents around the house occasionally and I am putting in new maple flooring. What does dog pee do to maple flooring? I used to have oak flooring in that room, am I better off with oak or with maple?

  1. Wow, hopefully not much if you catch it in time and clean it up!

But hey, stop the worries by using Abzorb Mats -- we use them here in pet areas.

    Cheap and sturdy stuff!!

    ...heck , get a roll!

  2. You try to teach your dog to go outside and not pee in the house. I would say that if the pee is not wiped up right away, the acid in urine could dull the finish of the wood floor. Any wood floor. But, then, you can sand the floors down and re-stain them.

  3. Like barb said, it's the quality of the finish that protects the wood, not the wood species itself.  You could look into bamboo flooring, it is actually a  grass, not a wood.

  4. Dark oak, maple is too light and would show it.
