Question:

What does dreaming about having a hurt foot/ankle mean?

This has been a constant in my dreams for the past three nights. The storylines and characters change, but I always seem to be in tremendous pain in my foot/ankle. It's excruciating, and eventually, I'm limping to try to alleviate the pain a bit.

I've never sprained my ankle or broken any bone. I can't understand why I keep dreaming about this. Anyone have any ideas about what this may symbolize?

  1. You do not mention whether or not there is any pain present when you are awake.

It is possible that your body is having leg cramps in waking reality while your mind is sleeping, and your sub-conscious is incorporating the pain into your dreams to keep those cramps from waking you up.

Physical things occurring to the body during sleep often DO get incorporated into dreams that way.  I have experienced a few variations on that, myself.  For instance, I once dreamed about large, dead fish and awoke to my cat breathing her stale-catfood breath in my face, and on another occasion I dreamed my throat was cut open from ear to ear.  I woke with some discomfort in my neck and throat, and later that day I was sent home from school with the mumps!  (FYI, "Mumps" was a traditional childhood disease, common in the 50s, that involved swollen glands in the neck.)

If there is not any trace of pain in waking reality (not even a slight residual trace of it when you first wake up) then I would tend to think that you may be tuning in to an injury you had in a previous lifetime.  Even though you are in a different body now, it is still a part of your energy field, and that stays with you from life to life.

If it continues to trouble you, I would suggest seeking help from a professional clinical hypnotherapist.

  2. Injury/Wound - Feeling  of hurtand being injured, vulnerable, weak

Foot\leg - your own point of view. Independence. Always a symbol of being grounded

Maybe you are in a time in your life where you are no sure of who you are and because of this your point of view on life is a little fuzzy. Maybe someone has asked you to do something that you are not sure if you are comfortable with? I think this dream is about finding yourself, or having something emotionally, and\or intellectually challenging you.

  3. To dream that you injured or hurt your foot, signifies a lack of progress, freedom, and independence. Alternatively, the dream may suggests that you have taken a step in the wrong direction. In particular, to dream that your foot gets cut by glass, then it indicates passivity.  You are hesitant or reluctant in taking the first step toward a goal or decision
