  1. The death of Piggy means that they just killed their own humanity.  Piggy represented common sense, maturity, and to be able to think things through rationally. So when they killed him, the all turned to savages.

    I don't remember what Simon stood for.


  2. Piggy can be compared to Human Reason and by killing him, they're simply demonstrating that they have officially abandoned all clarity in thinking in favor of a barbaric existence.

    Simon is the allegorical equivalent of Jesus, in a way. He is singled out for no concrete reason and is often seen assisting the smaller children in foraging for food. The manner in which his body floats gently out to sea surrounded by a halo of fireflies also serves to further glorify his character.
