  1. No. 8  like a lock it is your job to get big fat cauliflower ears! wear head gear or tape.

  2. Scrum time - Wait until everyone else is bound and driving, then grab the back of each second rows shirts, put your head between the two of them and drive. When the hooker hooks the ball back to you control it with your feet, talk to your scrum half and if he wants it then present it neatly, if he wants you to drive, pick it up then crash through the opposition.

If the opposition win the scrum then get your head up (but remain bound) and when the ball is out pressure the opposition ASAP.

General breakdown - Just get there first, win the ball by all means possible (except using your hands on the floor). Remember, don't touch their scrum half at all.

If you aren't in the ruck and your scrum half can't take the ball, then pick it up and smash into the defensive line.

Look for offload passes if you can.

Attack - Don't try any cute, intricate passing. Just play crash ball, ie' run through their players with ball in hand.

Defence - Smash, smash and smash.

Lineouts - There's a chance you may be asked to be an additional lineout jumper. Although i doubt it considering it's your first game.

  3. the eight man is the enforcer the biggest forward the strongest forward the hardest forward when your on defence you wreck them when your runing the ball up you wreck them always follow the ball when your on attack for support/link play  try and run the ball up as much as possible and target running into the backs  remember the eight man is the wrecking ball go out there and wreck them

  4. Being number 8 you form the back of the scrum. I suggest looking at some youtube video clips to get an idea from how the professionals do it.

    Run hard and run straight!

  5. You are most important at the scrum.  When it is your teams put in the hooker will kick the ball to the back of the scrum and it is up to you to make sure the ball does not get past your back foot.  You need to keep the ball in the scrum untill your scrum half (#9) is ready to pull it out.  When the other team wins the scrum you and one of the flankers (6 or 7) will break off and presure the other teams fly half (#10) and make him give a bad pass or if he has a run you get to destroy him.  If this is your first rugby game there are two very important things you must forget from your football days.  1) there is no blocking allowed! 2) when you make a tackle you want to make sure your head is behind.  Just remember cheek to cheek.  That is your face cheek to their butt cheek.  I know it is opposite of everything you were told in football but remember you do not have a helmet or shoulder pads so your neck is exposed.   Be safe, have fun, and check out LARUGBY.com when you have time.

  6. i think you mean Number 8, not eight man.

Basically what you need to do is pick the ball up in the rook and drive into the opponents line. Remeber this isn't p***y american football so don't dance around them just go in a striaght line and plow through them. Also when you get tackled, the ball is still in play. When you are tackled you must realease the ball so place it down on the floor when the rook is formed and loosley hold on to it untill your scrum half reaches the rook and takes the ball off the floor.

During the scrum you'll be at the back. You'll need to bind on loosley during your put in and tighter when its their put in. if your hooker wins the ball you can either pick up the ball and run or leave it to your scrum half to get it. (considering your not experienced) i'd leave to your scrum half.

Finally when you are tackling you must make an attempt to put your arms around the attacker, you can't just bodycheck him like in American Football.

  7. In Rugby Union the 8 men are usually the forwards.   The team consists of 15 men, 8 forwards, 2 half backs 4 backs and 1 full back.   The forwards are the big men of the team.   The number 8 is at the back of the pack (forwards) when they form a scrum.   If that is what the questioner is meaning.   The question is a bit ambiguious

  8. sorry - i don't know much about number eight's.

anyway good luck on ur first game.
