Question:

What does elevated HGB levels mean related to a urine test?

  1. If I remember right, HGB (Hgb) is hemoglobin.

    That means that there is blood in the urine. Yes, it can be there without you seeing it.

    That means kidney damage (possibly from passing a kidney stone). It could also mean the beginning of kidney failure (is the patient old, have high blood pressure, or diabetic?)

    Whatever the reason this is a condition that needs to be investigated.  DO NOT PUT IT OFF!!!


  2. There should not be ANY blood in the urine. anything above 0 is too much.

    Lots of things can cause bleeding in the Urinary system- some benign, some not so benign.  You need to get checked. A cancer of the kidney or bladder is a common cause of blood in the urine, especially if you are not having pain of a kidney stone.  Probably not CA, but you better see a Urologist and get the entire system checked.
