  1. Most energy generated to run our homes, buildings, transportation, and industries come from power plants that require something burning (such as coal, gas, or oil) to boil water to spin turbines to generate electricity.  Cars and trucks use fuel to  burn to spin wheels.  When these fuels (and even wood fuels) are burned, one of the many by-products is carbon dioxide.  All this energy generation results in an incredibly large amount of carbon dioxide, more than can be absorbed by trees, grasses, and plankton.  Too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere results in the now accepted effect called "global warming".  There are other methods to generate electricity that result in no or very little release in carbon dioxide.  These sources include renewable energy, like photovoltaic and wind turbine and geo-thermal energy generation.  Nuclear generation of electricity is also good with regard to producing little carbon dioxide, but once the nuclear fuel is "spent" or used up too much to produce the required heat to boil water, the extremely toxic spent fuel rods remain lethal, and dangerous for thousands of years, and therefore needs much more study before expansion of that particular strategy.  Want to know the easiest way to reduce carbon dioxide?  Conservation!  The cheapest kilowatt hour is the one that does not have to be produced.  First task is to become MUCH more energy efficient.

  2. (I think you mean "carbon footprint" which is the amount of carbon dioxide given off as a result of our activities.)  Fossil fuels are the most used energy source in the world.  When fossil fuels are burned, the chemical reaction releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.  The consumption of fossil fuels releases carbon and increases our carbon footprint.

There are some energy sources, like nuclear and solor, that do not give off carbon dioxide.  These are, however, an insignificant portion of total energy consumption.

  3. cars give off co2

    co2 clogs the atmosphere

    the earth gets really hot
