  1. Biggest surprise is Brodeur winning the Vezina. Mildly surprised Bruce Boudreau as coach of the year but its well deserved. Same for Datsyuk, thought John Madden might take it with team-mates cancelling each other out.

  2. I think (for once) they weren't fixed!

They were fair & those that deserved (esp. the Caps Coach)  the awards received them

  3. Happy with all of them except the absence of Nabby on stage

Well done Alex and Pavel! :D

  4. surprised only by the masterdon.  im not sure if its a good thing, but the league sees the same way as me for the veznia

  5. As a Red Wings fan, I wanted Babcock to win the Adams, but I can see how Boudreau won it. It takes a lot of work to take over a team that won 6 games in 21 and then take them to the playoffs. I admire him for being able to do that.

Lidstrom deserved his 6th Norris. He's an amazing defenseman  (and so modest about it too!).

Kane I think deserved the Calder. The kid seems really down to earth and in love with the game of hockey. I think he'll really contribute a lot and I'm glad to see him get recognized.

Datysuk winning the Lady Byng is no surprise. I thought Zetterberg might win the Selke, but I think they both deserved it so I'm not going to complain.

I think everyone else deserved their awards. Gordie Howe especially deserves his lifetime achievement award.

  6. The Awards this year were pretty easy to predict.

Btw, where do you find the voting results, or is that a League secret?

  7. "Carbonneau has no pressure because he's in Montreal"? I can't believe I actually just read that on here. That has to be by far the most ignorant and uninformed comment I've EVER read on a hockey related board.

Congrats to the new champion! *LOL*

  8. Malkin got screwed over. People dont recognize his talent.

  9. Kane for the Calder is a good one, i thought Backstrom but he deserved it

  10. Haha, I was surprised by the Vezina.  I thought Nabokov was going to win it, but I'm not going to complain!  I'm a Devils fan!  Congrats to everyone, I think they were all well deserved.

Haha, Datsyuk and Ovechkin were hilarious.

  11. All are good except the Vezina!

Nicklas Norris was a lock for the LIDSTROM TROPHY!

  12. I agree with NIPS on the outcome!!  However I really didn't feel happy for anyone that one won. In fact I'm still thinking of the last time I felt so happy for someone winning one of these NHL awards.

Oh wait now I remember 2004 Martin St. Louis winning the Heart in 2004. Here was a great player to watch in College hockey and it seemed that his NHL career was going to be short because of his size. To see him grow into a superstar and become the "heart and soul" of the Lightning really was a story that brought tears to my eyes. To see him score that goal in game 6 of the finals against his former team and he could have easily won the Conn Symthe over Richards that year too!!

  13. I like it. Vezina will be intresting

Here are my answers from before. The two I guessed incorrectly were the Vezina and Selke.

  15. Happy with all of them but the Vezina, I think Nabokov or Lundqvist deserved it more than Brodeur.

  16. I don't see how anyone could disagree with any of these choices.  I think they were all kind of easy to prognosticate aside from the MVP.

Ovechkin was deserving and this year's race should have been close.

Boudreau was a great choice, especially considering that he was up against Babcock and Carbonneau.  Babcock loses points automatically for coaching the Red Wings and you already made the point about Carbonneau.

Lidstrom deserved the Norris hands down over Phaneuf and Chara.

The Selke was probably another one that was fairly close.  Datsyuk is a great choice.

How can you argue with a guy with Leukemia for the Masterson when the guy didn't miss a game?

** There is no such thing as the "Lady Byng".  It's would be an oxymoron if it did exist.  Imagine being a runner up for that award.  Yeah, I finished 3rd in 2008 for the Lady Byng.  I wasn't enough of a candy *** to actually win the award though.

  17. I agreed with all of the Trophy winners except for the Adams Trophy and the Vezina Trophy.

I thought that Guy Carbonneau deserved it because he lead his team from a 10th seed team the year before, to the best team in the Eastern Conference. That is tremendous without a doubt. Plus coaching in a big, no, huge hockey city like Montreal, it makes it twice as hard to coach with all the pressure and press that surrounds you and your team day in and day out.

Ok,the Vezina goes to the goalie who is "adjudged to be the best at this position." Thats what Nabokov did throughout the season. Nabokov had better stats than Brodeur 3 of the 4 main Goaltender categories (Wins, G.AA and Shutouts). Too bad the General Managers and I did not see eye to eye on this perticular trophy.

  18. I felt it should have been Nabokov for the Vezina.  All the other winners are right on the money!

  19. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    BRODEURRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  20. Lol way to brag about knowing Brodeur... well I can't say much, I picked lundvqist... but I think Babcock shoulda got more consideration... but I'm fine with Boudreau... why was Cheli a nominee for the Masterson... cuz of his age, murder at restaurants... why?  But I think Blake shoulda won that for sure.

  21. I like all the winners you mentioned and believe they all were the deserving winners.

  22. These were my earlier picks.

    Hart- Ovechkin

    Vezina- Brodeur

    Norris- Lidstrom

    Calder- Kane

    Lady Byng- Datsyuk

    Selke- Zetterberg

    Jack Adams- Babcock

    Masterton- Chelios

The Jack Adams going to Bruce Boudreau was the only surprise to me.  I was glad Kane got to Calder, and I found his acceptance speech adorable.

  23. Right on except I think it was Nabbys year but playing on the West Coast he didn't have a chance vs. Marty

I think Fernando Pisani could have been a co-winner along with Blake

I'm glad Datsyuk won Selke over Zetterberg just from watching this last post season Datsyuk is leaps and bounds the player Zetterberg is, it's good to see him get a little bit of recognition without obligatory Zetterberg mention
