What does everyone think about John Tortorella being fired from the TB Lightning?

A win-win situation.  Clearly he "lost the room" last year, and his handling of the goaltending situation was a joke.  With that being said, he's won a Cup, so you would have to think he'll end up somewhere.  I'm just not sure a guy like Barry Melrose (who hasn't coached in the NHL since 1995) is the answer; okay so he's tight with the new owners, but the game has changed substantially since 1995, and it's not like Melrose has been coaching/scouting to where you could make the case he's been working with hockey people.  Torts' resume looks good on paper, but the right fit for him is fairly limited.

This was LITY's answer to a similar question, and it hit the nail on the head.

"Yes, it was a good move. [...] Look at the history of Pat Burns. He comes into a team, uses tough proven methods, and after a couple of years, the message wears on the players, and the team sags. Tortorella is that type of coach. Mike Keenan is that type of coach. Brian Sutter is that type of coach. Sutter, Keenan, and Burns are happy with that reputation (and all have won considerably more games than they have lost). We will see if Tortorella can repeat his success with another team. If he can't, then maybe 2004 was an aberration. I believe he can, and will however he needs the perfect fit. Can you show him the way to San Jose?"

I think it is good for both sides.  It probably should have happened last year.  He wore out his welcome there.  Jon is a good coach but the fit no longer worked.  Tampa will respond to a new coach and Jon will find work elsewhere in a year or two.  He is a cup winning coach afterall.

I will miss is post game rants.
