Almost everyone has accepted global warming. What do you think about car companies creating electric cars and cars that run on water vapor? An improvement? A disaster?

  1. I think global warming is a subtle and not very scary problem. But I think the world is running out of oil and if we don't find alternatives before it runs out completely the world economy will totally collapse. So I am not very upset that people are already calling for us to stop using oil due to global warming concerns, because it will be a massive undertaking to find enough alternative energy sources to replace all the oil we are using now and it will take many decades at least to do it, so global warming is good a spur to start people thinking and working seriously on the problem now.

  2. Alternative energy sources for vehicles are the future of the automobile industry. This years auto show was somewhat of an anomaly because carmakers are transitioning to alt. energy cars that won't be quite ready until next years show. Chery, a carmaker in China wants half of the cars in China to be hybrids of some sort by 2010! Check out the link below -

  3. An improvement for consumers and the world around us. A disaster for oil companies. This will happen eventually but the question is when. We are going to run out of fossil fuel someday. At the rate of its use now (especially here in the states) it will be sooner than than most people think. Lawmakers will be lobbied by Exxon, Texaco, etc to delay this because they will want to keep their pockets full. When it finally does happen on a grand scale the result could be wonderful for everyone else. More money in the pockets of consumers = more money in the pockets of businesses (not the other way around) as some would want you to believe.

  4. An economic disaster.  The auto manufacturers have to make cars that people will actually pay money for.  Cars running on water vapor are a hoax.  Electric cars are not econmically viable - yet. Revisit this idea in five years when gas is $5 per gallon and battery technology has been advanced.

  5. I think they need to hurry up and get on with this development. Car companies are wasting far too much time with stupid ideas to take attention off the real problem (HYBRID CARS :@ ) The sooner we have a non-fossil fuel dependant society, the sooner we can continue on our "never ending" evolutional path as human beings...for now we are stuck in a rut until we decide it's time to progress to bigger and greater things. Personally, I will NEVER buy a vehicle that runs on fossil fuels...Hey, i'm only one person to them but i'd rather stand up for what I believe in that just conform to age old REDICULOUS ideas...

  6. Electric cars and H2 cars just move most of the pollution to the power source that makes the electricity or H2.

  7. water is not a fuel never was never will be it takes at best twice the amount of energy to separate h2 & o than you get recombining them in a fuel cell.

electric yes first people have to get over the stigma assocciated with them and change their driving habits.

sooner or later every one will have to anyway since its estemated there's only a 30 year supply left.

  8. India has made a 2000 and 12 Dollar car. Solar Power made cheap could work. Solar Power in society, socialism which society based on, education supply up end of.

  9. Cars that run on water (fuel-cell vehicles) would be a great asset to stem global warming and cut down on air pollution, but I'm afraid the electric car may be a different story as electric cars can consume a lot of electricity when charging up, which may increase global warming and air pollution (even water pollution) indirectly.

  10. As I have said elsewhere, we will probably have a mix of electrics, hybrids and gas and diesel cars for some time.  However, it is entirely possible to create a clean electric grid that would eventually support all electric vehicles.  The potential of solar alone is enough to power the entire country.

Scientific American had an article about a plan that has been developed to convert the U.S. to solar power in this century. Here's the link to the article.

According to them, we could provide 65% of the nation's electricity with solar energy by 2050. And about 95% by the end of the century. We can actually do better than that. They are being very conservative in their estimates. They're talking about starting to build solar plants in the southwest desert starting in 2020. We have already started. All it takes is the political will to do it.

Once this is in place the whole nation including vehicles could run on clean energy.
