Personally my opinion , is that it is a good thing. Maybe if people had to actually look at the amount of calories they were about to eat while looking up at the boards and saying give me a #2, they would decide not to eat as much as they are. Hopefully it will discourage people from eating so much.

But the Fast Food Franchises are not happy about it of course, because they think as well that it will mean people will not eat as much, and often at they're establishments. Every fast food place from McDonalds to Starbucks in NYC.

  1. I think it is a great idea, and a very good thing. It provides a healthy diet for people who eat a fast food restaurants and could decrease obesity in Americans.

  2. i think its a good idea. i mean did you know that a big mac with fries and a drink is 1600 calories! thats a whole days worth of calories.

my problem is why do they just have them i NYC why not everywhere? texas has the highest obesity rate in the world (because they have the highest obesity weight in the U.S. and the u.S. has the highest obesity rate in the world) and why dont they have a calorie count.

also will small businesses have to do the same thing?

but overall it's a good idea.

  3. Government should not be telling private enterprise what to do. That is not what our constitution is for. Does anyone really need a calorie list for them to know that a double quarter pounder with cheese and large fries is bad for them. Wake up people use common sense. What next the government saying that no fast food meal can contain over x amount of calories. Food safety is the job of the fda not consumer education. Maybe you should have to watch a little video telling you the perils of eating a whopper then sign a disclosure before you can actually get it. With so many real issues that need dealing with the only thing we can accomplish is lets put the calories on the menu in a fast food restaurant.

  4. The Mandatory Calorie List has pros and cons.

    Pros:

-Customers know what they are putting in their mouth. I bet none know alot of the salads are almost 1000 calories!

-It helps with people who are watching their calorie intake.

    Cons:

    -Deters business.

-Eating out is a special time. No one wants to feel guilty while sitting at the table.

I think the list is not a good idea. Yes, customers have the right to know BUT alot of people would prefer to enjoy their meal w/o guilt. Its not like if they eat those same meals everyday. I think they should have a list behind the counter so if anyone watching their calories want to know, all they have to do is ask a worker for the list. But there no point in ruining the fun for everyone by making everyone read it.
