It's when an organism performs an action that it hasn't been taught to do, but is a natural reaction.  For example, a possum is genetically wired to play dead when it's scared, or a baby cries when it's hungry.  The possum's mother didn't teach it to play dead, nor did the human mother tell it's baby to cry if it was hungry.  These are reactions pre-programed from birth.

Genes in your genome which are expressed (turned into protein or enzymes to cause an effect) to do something in particular and even influence your attitude and perception.
