I have a history assignment to locate gological points and historic indian tribes and such, but one of the sections says to locate the Rocky Mount., Appalachians, etc. and explain their geologic origin. What is a geologic origin? Is it saying to tell if it is northern us or is it asking how it (the said location) was made?

  1. "Geologic origin" usually refers to how a specific geology feature formed.  In the case of mountains, that generally involves either the collision of two or more tectonic plates, resulting in massive uplift, or orogeny near a subduction zone.
