What does gge mean in terms of measurements of liquids?

I think it refers to some sort of liters, gallons or something else such as liquid qualities.

    Since the advent of 'Alternative Fuels', the 'GGE' is

    'Gasoline Gallon Equivalent' and is the amount of alternative fuel it takes to equal the energy content of one liquid gallon of gasoline (Petrol).
