What does hail netting ( Agriculture ) replace?

Hail netting which prevents hail damage...

what does it replace instead of???

Plastic sheets (last for 3to 5 years). But there is no  effective Alternative instead of Hail netting.

In my country(New Zealand) they have had moderate success with wind machines.If hail is predicted they set up these huge wind machines and it circulates the air,creating a warmer atmosphere,and the hail simply melts. So it supercedes even hail mesh.
