    Hammer is just that.  When you hit the note before the H, you hammer the following note in a hammer-like fashion. The finger hits the string with enough force to sound it.

    That is called hammering...The fingers act like a hammer except, you are hitting the fingerboard.

    Ex...above....You pick the 7 and hammer the 9 with force without picking.


  2. A hammer-on is when you strike the fret that follows the h; while continuing to hold one finger on the fret that preceeds the h.

    It allows you to play mulitple notes without picking, which will create a series of notes that sound "connected".

    It can also be used to play a lot of notes at high speeds.
