  1. An hCG shot does four things...

    1) Helps lesser mature follicles to catch up with the dominant one.

    2)  Forces all mature follicles (15mm and bigger) to release.

    3)  Helps prepare the uterine lining for implantation by making it more spongy (and easier for a little bean to stick).

    4) Guarantees ovulation in 36-40 hours.

These things are invaluable when you are having fertility treatment.  First of all, even if you O on your own, you can gear up to O and not actually do it, which would ruin the timing if you're doing an IUI.  Second, if you have egg quality issues, the more mature follicles you release, the better your chances that one will stick.

  2. What it does is mature the follicles to release the healthiest egg(s).  It also helps when you have to have timed intercourse or an IUI because it will release the egg within 24-48 hours after the injection is given.  The best outcome I've had so far with the injections is a very regular period, which for all of us TTC is important!  Good Luck!!!
