  2. The arrival of the railroad changed many things. I cannot speak for Ohio alone but some of the changes the railroad  made are as follows:

    *Perishible goods could be sold further away from the farm

    *Trains facilitated the industrial age, no trains no large scale  

      shipping across land.

    *It made mass transit possible furthering migration.

    *If you notice as you go west the states get larger, this is

      because of the railroads. As rail transportation developed

      people started thinking of distances differently. With high  

      speed  transportation it is easier to govern a large area.  

    * To me the most interesting thing is time. Before trains

       people never cared much about exact time, morning,noon,

       supper time was good enough. With the event of trains

       came train schedules for passengers and most important

       schedules for trains using the same track to avoid accidents.
