I don't understand what http error 404 means

Error 404 means that the server could not find the web page that you asked for.  Sometimes it could be because of bad internet.  Other times it could be your computer and spyware.  Just wait a bit. And try again later.  If it doesn't work, chances are the web page may have been taken out.  Do other sites work?  If other sties work then its not your computer's fault...if it (other web page) don't work then it may be something with your net.  Call your ISP if problems persist with your web pages that you go to not opening up.

The 404 or Not Found error message is an HTTP standard response code indicating that the client was able to communicate with the server but either the server could not find what was requested, or it was configured not to fulfill the request and did not reveal the reason why. 404 errors should not be confused with "server not found" or similar errors, in which a connection to the destination server could not be made at all.

You can't fix it, because it's not your problem, it's their (whatever you're trying to get to's) problem.  It means that the link is probably misdirected, or they moved the file, or something along those lines.  I'm also assuming you can get to other webpages, because you know, you're here asking.  Even then, you'd get a completely different code if you were not connected to the internet.  Technically, 404 means the server is there, but whatever you're looking for isn't (or for some reason, you can't get to it because of something wrong on their end), but a lot of times, even if a server is not there at all, you'll get a 404 error.  Either way, there's not a lot you can do about it, except call or e-mail whoever's server it is and ask what the heck is wrong.
