  1. Cars that are stuck in traffic jams or stopped at red lights burn fuel without creating a positive result.  A car accelerating after a stop burns more fuel than one already at cruise speed.

One of the easiest ways to fix this problem is to synchronize the traffic lights along a long stretch of a city street so commuters can drive non-stop for a long distance.

Cities with red light camera systems don't like these. because in cuts into ticket revenues

  2. http://www.ecobridge.org/content/g_cty.h...

"In a Texas A & M study on traffic congestion in the United States, engineers found that drivers wasted 598 million gallons of gas annually while sitting in heavy traffic in Los Angeles and New York City alone.[32]  This 598 million gallons of gas translates to about 7.5 million tons of carbon dioxide emitted annually in just these two cities."

  3. idling cars emit fumes when you are not even going anywhere. just think if you are sitting in traffic during rush hour and your car is just running and running. burning up all your gas. dont you think that would up carbon emissions and hurt the environment?

  4. b/c while your car is idling, your engine is on and exhaustion pipe is still working =) and contributing carbon dioxide when you dont need to =)

  5. While your car is running it is emitting carbon dioxide from the burning of your gasoline in the combustion engine. Carbon dioxide is one of the greenhouse gases. Just like the greenhouse effect these emissions get traped in our ozone and begin to eat away at it. Since the ozone protects us from the intensity and heat from the sun the more it depletes the hotter earth becomes.
