What does it mean if my new reciever has a digital output for a subwoofer?

Is that normal speaker wire out or do i need an amp.

  1. it is a type of plug that connects fron the amp to the sub


  2. it means that you can connect a powered subwoofer to you amp directly with one cable. they do this to take advantage of new surround sound processing that sets aside a channel just for the lower frequencies for you sub. of course you need a powered sub to take advantage of this.

  3. The output for a sub-woofer is not a digital output, it is analog but at signal level. You need a powered sub-woofer to take advantage of it.
