What does it mean if my starter motor makes noises when i start the car? Sounds like it is trying to start.?

When i start the car the starter motor sounds like it is trying to start even though it already has started. It is a scratching sound.

  1. It is indeed your Bendix drive, with a slight possibility your solenoid is not releasing. Teh Bendix repair requires removal of the starter. You can repair it, but most people just put a remanufactured, as opposed to rebuilt, starter in the car.  


  2. it sounds like its trying to start but it dosent. Its maybe because you dont have fuel or ur tank fuel is cracked somewhere. Get to a mechanic to analize your car and see what could be the problems and it could also be an electricity flaw.

  3. Sounds like your starter is staying engaged. Either the bendix is going bad or some electrical connection is still supplying current to starter which may keep the gear engaged to flywheel. Either way you need to have it fixed....if it keeps up it will ruin your flywheel.

  4. Sounds like Bendix if it goes away when rev it up it is the Bendix that means new starter. If stays then it is ELC trouble that has to be fixed
