  1. It's obnoxious and condescending and usually the sort of thing smarmy salesmen use, totally fake.

  2. Using your name over and over in a conversation is strange to say the least.  Ask them why they are doing it, to use someones name once or twice in conversation is about right any more than that it seems odd, maybe your friend has some problem remembering your name.

  3. they like calling your name.

  4. I think they like your name. That's what it sounds like in your example because it is excessive and not really natural. Maybe it is to them but that you say that they only do it to you. If it were natural then it would just be how they speak in general. You could try doing it back to them and maybe they will get the message that it's a bit overdone.

  5. I think it means they think you're not paying attention and they are trying to direct you back to their conversation. Or,it could just be they are weird.

  6. It means you're talking to a salesperson.  It's very obnoxious and condescending.

  7. It means that they are trying to make a personal connection to you.  To many people, their name is important to them.  It is important to them that other people know their name and remember it.

Using peoples' names and keeping eye contact with them is an important factor in inter-personal relations.

  8. It means that it's just something they do. If you are uncomfortable with it, you could just bring it up jokingly. "Hey, that's like the seventh time you've said my name now." and ask them why they do it, or ask them to stop. Other than that, just ignore it.

  9. They like your name, and they like saying it.  I have some friends who call me by my full name, first and last.  I asked them why.  They said they just love the way my name rolls off their tongue and it's fun to say.  Some of my friends have even made up nicknames using my first and last name.  Seems odd to me -- my name isn't all that spectacular.

  10. They probably think you have short attention span and are trying to direct your attention to what they are saying?  When I was in high school, a teacher would always address me in the lecture when I kept staring out the window.

  11. I've heard when you first meet someone you should use their name in conversation a few times because it will help you to remember it. If it's someone you've known for awhile, maybe they just like your name or like saying. Chalk it up to a personality quirk.

  12. that they remember your name?

  13. I don't know but my mother does this a lot (not when she's talking to me) she's not a salesman. Lol.

Maybe it is just a habit people get into.
