What does it mean if you have a dream that you can breathe under water?

I had a dream that I was swimming in a semi-large body of water ( most likely a lake but could be an ocean or sea ) and I didn't feel like holding my breath anymore, so I began to breathe while I was under water. Then, I saw a picture of myself floating in calm, sea blue-ish water just breathing ( I think I was in my clothes ). Next thing I know, I'm with some friends and I am telling them how I could breathe under water all of a sudden. They don't believe me so of course I have to show them. I get in the water and to my surprise I was under water and I was breathing. ( This was surprising because usually when I try to show people things it doesn't work out as well as when I was by myself. )

I have had this dream about twice now. Maybe three times. I don't remember who it was in my dream that I showed that I could breathe under water. I tried looking the meaning up on the internet but have found nothing. Maybe some of you people can help me?? (I may have been sweaty when awakening)

  1. that means you need to go to the doctor and get your heart checked. if you're waking up with your heart racing like a horse who just got branded, that means you have heart problems.

  2. It mean don't try it or you will drown

  3. This is an excellent dream. Water is symbolic of emotion! For you to be able to breath under water means that you are handling your emotions, and those around you, very well.

This is similar to "flying dream".

    It is a good sign.

  4. i don't think it means anything...i get the same thing. reoccuring dreams r probiblie just things that happend to u in your life happening in different ways. i get a lot of dreams where i'm jumping off of skyscrapers...i want to be a halo jumper...i think it's the same kind of thing

  5. The movie is called 'The Deep' and it shows a rat doing it and a man doing it only the water was specially made for breathing. The idea is that at great pressures you can stay alive.

  6. it could mean 2 things

    1. ur life is gonna be nothing but realxation and success

    2. or u r about to overcome a realy bad crisis!

    GOOD LUCK!

  7. People say that dreams come from the brain and it's wants. That the brain uses that time to sort out it's thoughts. Maybe you wish you could breathe underwater? Or maybe you had this dream once and you liked it so much your brain is basically replaying it.

Other's say that dreams can give you an insite into the future, maybe 20 years from now people will be able to breathe underwater.

I myself rarely dream, but when i do it always comes true, it puzzles me and sometimes the dream may not come true for years, but they do.

The brain, and life itself is a complicated thing, it could mean a number of things. Weather you belive it means you will be able to breath underwater, or you just think it's a coqincidence, is up to you.

Personally i think it could be a mixture of both.

p.s. also people say the brain could also use dreams to show us something that we are worried or bothered about, somethign that is bugging our concence. Just a thought, maybe you regret something and it has something to do with water?

  8. It means you have a special ability to breathe underwater! Go try! -

I was just curious to see what it really means .. and I found this on dreammoods.com

To dream that you are breathing underwater, represents a retreat back into the womb. You want to return to a state where you were dependent and free from responsibilities. Perhaps you are feeling helpless, unable to fulfill your own needs and caring for yourself. Alternatively, you may be submerged in your emotions.

  9. me too i have the same dream too,

i dreaming about when i swimming in a school pool and all the studden a sea loch monster appear then i hopped on it back and it pull me underwater and i stay there for an hour and i can breath underwater then i turn my head around and saw a sinking ship, then i woke up with the bed wet and i sweating like i been swimming (no i didn't pee in my bed)

  10. It means you're g*y.

  11. Water is symbolic for several things.  Emotions is the main one.  Also, mother, and all things are connected in the universe.

Breathing could be symbolic for life.  Maybe you weren't living life to your potential due to some emotional issues (holding breath) and then you decided to take a chance and now your able to live life in a much calmer manner.

  12. cool dream! ive had dreams like that too...but i dont know the meaning, soz...

  13. It means you are asleep.

  14. I  think it means you are feeling extremely free and almost weightless. You have been freed from whatever was worrying you and are ready to face whatever comes your way in life. In other words, you are confident and can be whatever you want to be

  15. I think it means that there's something going on that you're not reaching your full potential in.  You are able to breathe underwater, yet you see yourself just laying on the surface, not trying.  Examine what you're doing right now, and see if there's a way to go further in it.

  16. I had a teacher who was great at dream interpretation and i had this reacurring dream that I was stuck on a ship and couldnt escape, he told me to just jump off and i did and i havent had the dream since.  Usually when u have a reaccuring dream ur subconscious is trying to tell you something, I think maybe it there is something in your life that you want to do but ur doubting yourself because it seems impossible

  17. Dreams are a way of your brain storing memories so have you been breathing under water any time recently?

  18. yeah dreams are usually ur subconscious thoughts..u could be sweaty,yes..other than that u may want to go diving, and have been thinking abt it..or maybe even ur frustrated at feeling out pf breath when ur swimming or sth..if its some kinda divine message, ull probably get more pointers soon..wat i think is,u had the dream the first time because u wanted to go swim or dive or were sweaty or sth,but u had the dream again n again coz u kept thinking bout it =)

  19. well summer vacation just started, your body is anxious to get to the beach. idk, lol.

you see, when you dream, there is deep sleep, followed by like 90 mins of REM, or rapid eye movement, then deep sleep, then 90 mins or REM, etc. You never remember what happens during the deep sleep though, only the REM, so that might explain for the lack of context, idk. i dont think its something you should really anaylize, just go with it and enjoy it, a dream like that would be awesome.

about the dream explanation, i took an AP psychology course this past year, it was really entertaining, if you get a chance, take it, it may help you out :)

    good luck

  20. Free spirit?

I guess it's a dream that had a big impact on you and that causes it to recur. Don't dwell on it, it's just a dream, fantasy.

  21. Hmm.. I'm not sure.

Might just not mean anything. But it sure is strange that you keep  on having it over and over.

Look in my source down to 'Water'. It shows something about what dreams mean. Hope it helps.
