  1. "Sweet"

    (in ASL, as far as I know) there are other forms of sign language.  That would be the literal translation.  However, it can be used in different situations, not just sweet like candy or a descriptive word.

I am not sure either answer is correct give so far.  Was this done here in the USA and what part of the country?  What I have learned and experienced with American Sign Language is that there are regional signs, school signs (developed by the staff/students of a particular deaf school/program that is only used amongst themselves), a name sign, or a family home gesture sign.  As for the sign "sweet" I looked it up on line http://www.lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-si...  it shows the pictorial of signing sweet and the entire hand is being used not just one finger.

        It is possible they were signing "red" or "silent"  go to this website and see if you can recognized what you saw... http://www.lifeprint.com/
